My great friend and other half of the K9 Critique podcast Jake Nielsen once created a team of superheroes. Kind of a joke team. but we really fleshed out the world that these characters inhabited. The idea started with Digestive Man who I thought would be someone who showed up in Stan Lee’s Superhumans or something. Like he can digest anything. That’s his power. And what if we made a team of heroes and villains of that ilk.
This is Digestive Man. The idea is that he’s actually a very capable and hardcore army veteran, but people started to make fun of him after he had saved the day by consuming some wires or some dangerous substance. (The specifics of which weren’t ironed out entirely). He was later brought onto a government initiative of military and scientists who have Seemingly Insignificant Mutations (SIMs). They could user their SIMS and their military expertise for good.
This is Pitch Perfect girl. Literally, she just has perfect pitch. But she can also imitate anyone. She can do weird stuff with her voice. She is also like a Black Widow-type espionage expert. This picture however betrays the fact that she is super serious. So perhaps this is her more upbeat sister? I don’t know.
This is Colonel Rose. We couldn’t really think of a catchy nickname for her. But basically she can see colors that others cannot, but also she can kind of use this heightened eyesight power to focus intently. She became an army medic because of her ability to keep cool under pressure. She also has a brother who is basically the opposite. Once he is enraged he can basically ignore pain and can lock his muscles and joints in this state during combat.
Just one villain that actually made it towards concept was the Millennial Lad (forgive the spelling in the picture). He’s a time traveler who traveled back in time to the 2010s because he is obsessed with this time period. We thought it funny that one day someone would WANT to come back to the time we were living in. He’s sort of the anti-booster gold in a way. He fights people with fidget spinners, tide pods, katanas, etc. Jake always theorized he came back in time to save Harambe…RIP.
